Here’s an animation I worked on last year with the lovely Chloe Tak. It’s a two week exercise made with paper cutouts and captured frame by frame using a camcorder fixed over a lightbox.
At first we tried to come up with a coherent story, but decided shortly after that it’d be fun instead to just do a bunch of exercises, considering this was our first time animating stuff. We aimed to have roughly 20 scenes fired off in rapid succession and ended up basing the rythm on Fifty Four Fifty by The Bran Flakes. I thought the song would be perfect for this, since it’s short, upbeat and has an awesome voice over at the beginning and end.
The title wasn’t intended to have any meaning, since the work itself had none. However, one of the contenders was King Krispy and the Corn Cobbers. Can’t remember what that was about, but I still like the sound of it.
Also, after the animation was finished we had ourselves a sizeable collection of paper cutouts, which we felt would’ve been a waste if they were just thrown away. So I made a poster to accompany the animation. Hope you like them!
Oh and again we do not own the song. If you liked the music, please do go check out The Bran Flakes at
